As a little girl, Priyanka grew up amongst women who were adept at weaving. Whether it was her grandmother who wove magic with the golden threads of the Muga, or it was her mother who wove colourful Gamuchas for Bihu and elegant Mekhela Chadors for herself and her sisters, aunts and elders. She wanted to weave designs of her own and to pursue that dream Priyanka finally ventured into the world of Fashion Design at NIFT, Bangalore.
She always knew handicrafts was her calling and hence she worked for a short while with an NGO that supported artisans from various fields of handicrafts. . The inception of The Mulberry Tree, in 2017, was to give master artisans who are skilled in creating premium and exquisitely fine handloom products, their due through a brand that gives them the recognition for their hard work and also supports their livelihood and families.
